Si Se Puede: College Access for Latinx Students

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The Virginia Latino Higher Education Network (VALHEN) works with Latinx high school and college students and professionals across the state with a singular goal: “empower Latinx students in the Commonwealth of Virginia with the tools to succeed in high school, college, and beyond.” Their work includes scholarships, culturally sensitive college trips, professional development, and a free summer program for high school students.

Along with highlighting VALHEN’s college access programs and their best practices, presenters will also focus on their experiences working one on one with Latinx student families through their experience working with the College and Career Bound program at the Sacred Heart, a community center in Richmond serving the Latino Community.

Participants attending this presentation will leave with increased knowledge regarding the Latinx student population, including DACA and undocumented students, and resources in Virginia. While the presenters will focus on the Latinx community, many strategies can be used with other under-represented students.
